Sometimes what you see is not what you get.

There are several software packages out there that you can use to create a blog.  Some you need to purchase the license agreement to use and others are FREE with an open license.  I like FREE because it brings me back to the days when software developers would work on projects just for the sake of doing it without any monetary compensation;  entire operating systems were written in such fashion before Microsoft ever introduced its "flagship" Disk Operating System or DOS, as it came to be known.  The "Community" of programmers would create projects so that all could benefit from it.  In a sense, we, as developers, were learning and at the same time teaching each other.

As a foundation, today's technology is based upon the work of the past and then expanded to what you now see.  It didn't happen overnight by any means and it took many human hours to get things to this point.

Live Writer

This is an easy to use software package that you can download for FREE.  It allows you to create pages and posts for your BLOG.  It also allows for multiple BLOGs so that you can create and modify more than just a single BLOG.

One of the features of this software package is to connect to your BLOG and download the theme that you are using.

The Problem

Unfortunately, I had a problem trying to get a theme into Live Writer.  I would get an error message saying, in effect, that Live Writer couldn't download the theme.

I tried several things but none of them seemed to work.  Even tried it on several different themes but it still didn't work.

Back Up a Bit

The blogging software I use can be found at blogengine.net.  It's also FREE.

In the administration mode, you can add pages, similar to what Live Writer would do for you.  You also have a switch, meaning a checkbox control, that allows you to make a given page as the front page of your blog.  If "is front page" is checked then Live Writer will have a problem loading your theme.

Solution:

By simply not having any page checked as the front page, the theme will load into Live Writer without a problem.
